Jews are known as ‘the people of the book’, and have many scared texts and writing which are precious to Jewish history and the divine commandments. The Torah is the most important text in Jewish faith and contains the 613 commandments and stories that give teachings about life and death (Pelaia, 2014). ‘Torah’ is a Hebrew word meaning teaching or instruction. The Torah is the prism through which one strives to understand the significance of one’s self (Matzat, 2007). It is the first section of the Jewish Bible and is central foundation of Jewish beliefs. It provides a guidance to life and serves the spiritual beliefs of Judaism. A child becoming a Bar Mitzvah will recite selected passages from the Torah throughout the service as it is the most significant text to Jewish faith.
